When Matt Christiansen served as General Counsel to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from 2021 to 2025, he oversaw more than 200 attorneys and helped shape some of the most significant federal energy rulemakings in recent memory, involving RTO/ISO markets, transmission development, generator interconnection, and natural gas infrastructure.
That experience is now coming to HData.
Christiansen is currently in private practice advising clients on FERC proceedings involving many of those same issues. Before his time as General Counsel, he served as legal advisor to Commissioner Richard Glick. Prior to joining FERC, Christiansen served as a law clerk to the Honorable Stephen F. Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and the Honorable Jesse M. Furman of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Christiansen also lectures at Yale Law School on Advanced State and Federal Electricity Law.
"Matt has been in the room for some of the most consequential decisions in energy regulation over the past several years," said HData CEO Hudson Hollister. "His understanding of how FERC works — from his experience on the inside — is exactly the kind of perspective that helps us build better tools for the people and organizations that work with federal energy processes and data every day."
Christiansen, for his part, sees HData's capabilities as a key element of his energy regulatory practice. “Artificial intelligence is increasingly critical to the practice of law. HData brings that potential to bear on my work,” he explained. “The ability to effectively — and instantly — synthesize the record in large, complex proceedings is an advantage not just for our practice, but for anyone navigating the energy regulatory landscape.”
